Some Brief and Recent History of Tithing and Tithing Teachers

More or less the tithing deception has evolved like this in the modern tithing heresy...

FIRST, for approximately forty years, from about 1970 (made popular by the word faith prosperity gospel and others), tithing teachers referred to scriptures in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy and Malachi in order to convince people to tithe to them.

During that period of time many resources such as books, tapes, CDs, personal and ministry websites, blogs, podcasts, Youtube, Facebook, live sermons and more were utilized to scripturally prove tithing teachers absolutely wrong, mainly by pointing out that we are not under the law, the fact that Malachi is not instructing Christians to tithe, and that Jesus clearly called tithing "a matter of the Law" (Matt. 23:23), etc.

Many tithing teachers looked for and found another set of false teachings, and another strategy to keep the "tithe money coming in"...

SECOND, they turned to the "tithe because Abraham did" foolish deception (I began hearing that around 2002). That one was quickly proven to be a lie and also more false doctrine with no scriptural support at all. God never instructed anyone to tithe because of, or as Abraham did. Abraham is never cited in God's word as a reason or example to tithe. We are to follow the example of the faith Abraham exhibited at times (though many times Abraham failed in his faith making numerous mistakes), but there is nothing in God's word stating that Abraham tithed in faith or in obedience to God.

God never told the nation Abraham was the Father of, the Nation of Israel, to tithe because Abraham did; why then would God do so to the church? And, if God did; where is the Chapter and Verse recording such a command? Where are we told in scripture to "tithe as Abraham did?"...nowhere to be found is the answer.

> And again; Many tithing teachers looked for and found another set of false teachings and another strategy to keep the "tithe money coming in"...

THIRD, tithing teachers began using nebulous descriptions of tithing that sound like they can come from and fit nicely into the New Testament, therefore applicable to Christians with deceptive titles such as...

"Grace Tithing," "Tithing Under Grace." "Love Tithing," "New Covenant Tithing," "Christian Tithing," "New Testament Tithing," "Tithing as a way of Life," "The Tithe Challenge," and my favorite filthy demonic lie; "Voluntary Tithing" that you can choose to do, that you don't have to do, but if you don't, God will curse you and your family, withhold blessings, and see to your punishment and destruction." All of which are found nowhere in God's Word for Christians, and in particular, nowhere in the New Testament for a Christian.

False teacher and "word faith" heretic, Jerry Savelle, might have possibly coined the best lie of all with his "Non Performance Tithing;" tithing he claims comes from Genesis 8:22 (more on that below), and is a kind of tithing that one does not based on "good performance" of the Law of Moses, so Savelle claims, you just do your best and God smiles on your noble efforts to tithe faithfully to your favorite tithing teacher.

A very causal disarming smooth approach to tithing I must say, and deceptive as a snake. Nice one, Jerry, well done indeed; or should I say; nice one, satan? You get my point, I'm sure.

Cleflo Dollar, a man who has stated publicly that he wants to kill all non tithers who attempt to enter his church by shooting them down with military assault weapons, refers to his so called tithe as "Your Covenant Connector to God;" that is to say, if you don't tithe you have no covenant with God and therefore are not saved.

Dollar has also stated many times in public that "tithing saves a person from hell" and "it is impossible for tithers to end up in hell." Furthermore, Dollar claims that God does not heal non tithers, and that no promise of God is available to you without tithing. Clearly this deceptive man is of his father, the devil. No true Christian minister of God would ever make such sickening and violent claims. Dollar is a dangerous menace to the Christian community, as are many of his comrades in tithing.

Some tithing teachers in the third wave of tithing deception still attempt to utilize the curses in Malachi chapter two to further threaten Christians who don't tithe with horrible curses and loss of blessings completely ignoring Malachi 4:4 which states that who Malachi was talking to, and instructing tithing to, were a nation under the Law of Moses; The Nation of Israel, not the New Testament Church...

"Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments." - Malachi 4:4

And, ignoring Malachi 1:6 and Malachi 2:1 where Malachi makes it crystal clear that he is addressing the corrupt Priests of his day, not New Testament Christians (unless of course you believe that you are in fact a Priest of the Tribe or Levi?)...

"And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you." - Malachi 2:1

One minster I listened to told his starry eyed gullible congregation; "It's your choice people, tithe or die cursed and broke!"

And again; Many tithing teachers looked for and found another set of false teachings and another strategy to keep the "tithe money coming in"...

FOURTH, "The Tithing Principle;" this is one of the best lies so far, and is similar to number three just above because the tithing teacher can cite his "Tithing Principle" and describe tithing anyway he or she wants to.

In this deception, scripture such as Genesis 8:22 which says "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease" which has NOTHING to do with instructing a Christian to tithe, can and is used by tithing teachers when they deceive people into handing over 10% of their paychecks. The tithe is often called your "faith seed" and tithers are instructed by tithing teachers to "plant your seed to avoid being cursed."

The obvious problem with this latest deception is that if there was a scripture wide "Tithing Principle" it would logically have to be based on God's instructions and commands concerning tithing (I think you would agree that such logic is valid). This logical concept of expecting that the "Tithing Principle" should be based on scripture presents a major problem to the tithing teacher who maintains that tithing is what he or she says it is.

Facts such as the tithe was given to the Tribe of Levi and God has never taken it back or transferred it to anyone else, the tithe being limited to agricultural items only (fruits, vegetables and clean animals from the promise land, a fact stated by God 16 times in the Bible and ignored), the requirement of three tithes, the tither having to be an Israeli living on the Promise Land, the second tithe to be consumed by the tither himself buying what he wants to buy with it if converted to money by selling his tithe, only the tithe of the tithe (i.e., the temple tithe; one percent of the whole) was to be brought to the storehouse at the National Temple, the poor not required to tithe anything, the third tithe to be given directly to the poor, the needy and the stranger in the land, the tithe never being money or on income of any kind, are all conveniently ignored and kept from the student of the tithing teacher teaching his deceptive "Tithing Principle," and the students are, of course, told that "your tithe money must be brought from your paycheck and all other income to me or my organization."

CONCLUSION;

So, what new lie and deception will the tithing teacher come up with? I'm not sure, but whatever it is, I can almost assure you that after their "Tithing Principle" doctrine of devils has been played out and brought in as much money as possible, satan will supply them with yet another bondage producing filthy lie.

Perhaps they will begin telling the people they lie to "Jesus appeared to me and told me to tell you that you must tithe!" That would not surprise me at all.

In the meantime...

Tithers...financial slaves and victims of whom they tithe to.
