Many times we hear comments, claims and memes from people who can't show us scripture instructing a Christian to tithe. These people often rely on foolish comments and slogans like "tithing gets God involved in your finances," or "tithing proves you trust God," "tithing is part of God's plan for your life," "tithing is not about salvation but it IS about maximizing your relationship with God," "tithing's not a debt you owe, it's a seed you sow." None of these claims have any Biblical bases.
Since they can't do so, can't produce scripture, they will often try to rely on unbiblical claims and man-made arguments such as...
Comment; "Is it a sin to tithe?"
>> Answer; If you're "tithing" based on the Law of Moses, as an example; Malachi 3:10 / Malachi 3:7 / Malachi 4:4, according to the Apostle Paul in Galatians 3:1-4 you are ...
"O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh [BY THE LAW OF MOSES, WORKS OF THE LAW]? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain."
So, you tell us; is it a sin to tithe? A better question would be; are you foolish and bewitched having been fooled into a non-existent requirement to tithe?? If you are tithing money to a church, a pastor or anyone else believing you must do so, YOU ARE FOOLISH AND BEWITCHED. The Bible in Hebrews 7:18 says that tithing was ENDED along with the need to have a Levite stand between you and God as a Priest, Jesus is now our eternal High Priest and JESUS DOES NOT NEED YOUR TITHE...
Hebrews 7:18-20 - "For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:"
Comment; "Where does the Bible tell us to stop tithing?"
>> Answer; Who is "us?" Where did God command "us" New Testament Christians to START tithing in the first place? NOWHERE. Has tithing ended? Yes, here; Hebrews 7:18 - "For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof."
Comment; "I tithe because I'm not under the law."
>> Answer; That's like saying "I sacrifice animals for my sins because I'm not under the law." Also, the Law (Law of Moses) is the only place where God has commanded anyone to tithe, and it was a command to the physical Nation of Israel, not the New Testament Church. Tithing was a national requirement on the Nation of Israel, not an individual requirement on anyone. Additionally, the Bible makes it clear; the commend to tithe was a matter of the Law of Moses, not a New Testament requirement...
Hebrews 7:5 - "And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:" ..."ACCORDING TO THE LAW" Christians are not under the Law; "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." - Romans 6:14
Comment; "Will I be sent to hell for tithing?"
>> Answer; No one has said you will. You also won't be sent to hell necessarily for being stupid and ignorant. If you're paying a tithe of money to a pastor or church, you're being robbed. You won't be sent to hell for being robbed either. But, are you going to spend your entire life being robbed and lied to? We hope and pray not!
Comment; "There is no chapter and verse that says you shall not give a tithe."
>> Answer; The Bible does not say that you can't eat cow manure either. Do you eat cow manure? Why not? The Bible nowhere says "stop eating cow manure." We do NOT live by what the Bible does NOT say, there are a million things it does not say. It DOES SAY the tithe requirement has ended, canceled and no longer needed. See Hebrews 7:18. The Bible also tells us that God never instructed Gentiles to tithe anything to anyone; "He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto ISRAEL. He hath NOT dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord." - Psalm 147:19-20
Additionally; In the New Covenant, no Apostle ever taught tithing, asked for a tithe, rebuked any person or church for not tithing, or received a tithe for themselves. Not one of them. The early church (i.e. Book of Acts) NEVER tithed. We have NO record of them doing so, not a single verse stating that required tithing was practiced in the early church. If tithing was a New Testament requirement and practiced as such it would have been recorded in the New Testament as being practiced. There is no such record.
Comment; "Jesus never said don't tithe."
>> Answer; Jesus never said New Testament Christians, the Church, are commanded to tithe, either. Why would Jesus tell us to stop doing something He never told us to do in the first place? Again; we do NOT live by what the Bible does NOT say, there are a million things it does NOT say. It DOES SAY tithing is ended, canceled and no longer needed (Hebrews 7:18). Claiming that you tithe "because Jesus did not tell us to stop tithing" is preaching from silence. A very bad idea!
Comment; "I don't pay a tithe, I give a tithe."
>> Answer; You can't "give a tithe," you can't "give" what you don't own. The tithe was the personal property of the Levites, it is their inheritance, GOD GAVE IT TO THEM, they own it, it was NEVER taken from them and given to a church, a pastor or anyone else. See Numbers 18:21-24.
Comment; "It's my money; what do you care if we pay a tithe?"
>> Answer; we don't care what you do with your money. But as noted above; are you going to be robbed and lied to forever? We are here to help people become free from the lie of monetary tithing (requirement of tithing of money) to false teachers who are robbing you NOT ONLY of your money, but also of your freedom in Christ to give as God leads you to do so. Would you not be free from the modern lie of tithing, set free by the truth?!
Comment; "Why is it wrong to give a tithe?"
>> Answer; Right or wrong often has nothing to do with it. Again; You can't "give a tithe," you can't "give" what you don't own. The tithe was the personal property of the Levites, it is their inheritance, they own it, GIVEN TO THEM BY GOD. The tithe was NEVER taken from them and given to a pastor or anyone else, including you. See Numbers 18:21-24
CONCLUSION; It would be wiser if you people making such comments base your beliefs and actions on what scripture says and heeded the words of Acts 17:11...
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the SCRIPTURES daily, whether those things were so.
And, this...
