Malachi 3:8-10...
"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
This claim seems to be, more or less, the flagship scripture verse of false tithing teachers, it is used, taken completely out of context, to pressure Christians into tithing by calling them "God robbers" if they are not titling. In reality, Malachi was addressing the Nation of Israel and the corrupt priesthood that had taken control of the temple at that time and were stealing and misusing the temple tithes. How do we know that Malachi was addressing the nation of Israel and not Christians today; because Malachi stated clearly that he was...
Addressing Israel...
"The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi." - Malachi 1:1
Addressing the corrupt priesthood...
"A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?" - Malachi 1:6
Addressing the corrupt priesthood...
"And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you." - Malachi 2:1
Additionally; the Book of Malachi cannot be properly understood without placing it in the proper context of Nehemiah chapter 13; Nehemiah records the history of what was happening in the temple of his time, who was robbing God, and what he, Nehemiah, did about it to correct the unGodly situation. Malachi writes the indictment against those God robbing priests who Nehemiah disposed of and then cleaned out the temple.
Malachi is not instructing New Testament Christians to engage in some kind of "Christian tithing." To claim so is utter foolishness using scripture taken out of historic and textual context. The God robbers were the priests, not the common people, who were NEVER commanded to bring any tithe into the temple / storehouse.
Being in the Order of Melchizedek does not mean that Christ requires tithes of us.
The commandment given to the Nation of Israel to tithe was not a requirement for other nations, hence the reason Malachi makes it VERY clear that he is addressing the nation of Israel...
"The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi." - Malachi 1:1
And...
"He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord." - Psalm 147:19-20
Gentile Christians were never instructed to tithe or authorized to tithe by God. Tithing is not one of instructions they received from the Apostles, if tithing was important and to continue for New Testament Christians, they would have been instructed to do so; they were not...where do you see a commandment to tithe?...
"Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law [i.e., tithe: Jesus said tithing was a matter of the law - Matt. 23:23]: to whom we gave no such commandment:" - Acts 15:24
"For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well." - Acts 15:28-29

One of the most consistent falsehoods in churches today is that you are obligated to "pay tithes." There are no such instructions anywhere in God's Word. The purpose of this Blog is to examine false doctrines in today's teachings on tithing. Anyone claiming that a Christian must tithe is teaching a falsehood. "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." - Acts 17:11
