Tithe Because Abraham Did?

When all else fails and tithing teachers can't provide any scripture to prove that a Christian is instructed by God to tithe, they will often (almost always) relay on the claim that "we should follow the example of Abraham and his tithe to Melchizedek and tithe also." That is to say "Abraham tithed, we should too."

There is no reason to go into details at this point as to why "tithing because Abraham tithed" is nonsense, that has been covered many times here in the past (I'll post why if anyone requests it).

I did, however, want to bring up one point concerning Abraham and tithing, and that point is this; why should we as Christians tithe because Abraham tithed when NO Israeli did so?

There is NO mention in the Law that any Israeli was to follow the example of tithing based on Abraham. Abraham was the Father of their nation and held in very high esteem by the Children of Israel, but we find NO record or command of any Israeli tithing based on, or because of, Abraham. Israel's tithing was based on The Law of Moses, the Torah, not Abraham.

If the Children of Israel, the Children of Abraham, did not tithe based on Abraham doing so; tell me why we should? Such a claim is pure nonsense.

Tithing teachers will also claim "tithing was around before the law, and therefore it is to remain a practice after the law."

Often, tithing teachers will ask "where has the Bible told us to stop tithing? To answer that we simply reply; where did God told us to begin tithing in the first place, and who is "us?" Usually they will answer with Malachi 3:6-10 taking those verses completely out of any reasonable context and accurate historic purpose, or they will refer to Matt. 23:23 claiming that "Jesus validated tithing in that verse" completely ignoring the fact that Jesus firmly placed tithing as a "matter of the law," and we as Christians are NOT under the Law or it's instructions to tithe.

The results of the first church counsel did not include instructions to tithe because Abraham did; why didn't the Apostle Peter (James speaking for Peter), after the first Church counsel, include in his instructions to the Gentile Believers to "make sure you tithe as Abraham did?...

"For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well." - Acts 15:28-29

Not one word from the Apostle Peter to tithe as Abraham did. If tithing was so important, and was to be based on "Abrahamic tithing," why did the Apostle Peter leave it out of his instructions?

Also, Abrahamic tithing left out of this verse...

"Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:" - Acts 15:24

If we are supposed to be tithing as Abraham did; why are we not to be circumcising because Abraham did? Why just tithing?

God provided Abraham the covenant confirmed with circumcision, NOT TITHING; to tithing teachers, tithing, not ordained by God, is to be the sign of the covenant between God and Abraham, which to them is held in higher priority than a God ordained covenant; the covenant with Abraham was confirmed with circumcision, not tithing.

God told Abraham to circumcise himself, his household and his servants as an everlasting covenant in their flesh. Those who were not circumcised were to be "cut off" from their people...

Genesis 17:10-14

"This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant."

We are called by God to be free will cheerful givers, NOT tithers in any form. There is no such Biblical doctrine of "tithing because Abraham did."
