One of the most consistent falsehoods in churches today is that you are obligated to "pay tithes." There are no such instructions anywhere in God's Word. The purpose of this Blog is to examine false doctrines in today's teachings on tithing. Anyone claiming that a Christian must tithe is teaching a falsehood. "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." - Acts 17:11

TITHING ABOLISHED FOREVER BY JESUS CHRIST

HEBREWS 7:8; NOT A REASON FOR CHRISTIAN TITHING
Tuesday, March 31, 2026
THE CHURCH TO TITHE BASED ON HEBREWS 7:8?
THE CHURCH TO TITHE BASED ON HEBREWS 7:8?
Though tithing was mentioned before Moses, moving forward in time; the tithe (tithing) came under the administration and control of the Law (the Law of Moses, the Commandment)...
Numbers 18:21 - "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Hebrews 7:5 - "And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:"
MOVING FORWARD
The tithe (tithing) declared obsolete and canceled...
Hebrews 7:18-19 - "For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God."
>> Additionally;
Hebrews 7:8 refers to the Law of Moses [represented by the Levites; see Hebrews 7:11] paying a tithe to Melchizedek, which proved the superiority of Melchisedec over the Levite priesthood and the Law (Hebrews 7:7- "And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better").
It was in fact the Levites paying a tithe to Melchisedec...
Hebrews 7:9 - "And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham."
The New Testament Church is NOT the Law of Moses, are NOT Levites, are NOT the Commandment, AND CANNOT TITHE BASED ON HEBREWS 7:8 TO ANYONE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The New Testament Church is NOT represented in Hebrews 7:8 as paying tithes.
CONSIDER...
How and why did the Levites take tithes? Answer; because they were given THE COMMNADMENT to do so. Again; "have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law,"
The commandment to take tithes is, again; CANCELED, DISANNULED, ENDED, ABOLISHED because it was of the Law...
Hebrews 7:18 - "For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof."
CONCLUSION
All tithing is forever abolished and canceled! Hebrews 7:8 does NOT command a Christian to tithe anything to anyone.

MONETARY TITHING FROM INCOME IS NOT RECORDED IN THE BIBLE
FACTS;
> Abraham - did not tithe money from personal income.
> Jacob - did not tithe money from personal income.
> Israelis - did not tithe money from personal income.
> Original New Testament Christians - did not tithe money from personal income.
CONCLUSION;
Monetary tithing from income is not recorded in the Bible, and not commanded by direct command or by example.
Additionally;
>> God's commanded tithe was limited to fruits, vegetables and clean animals, agricultural products from the Promised Land of Israel, from nowhere else, from nothing else...
See - Lev. 27:30, 32, Num. 18:27, Num. 18:28, Deut 12:17, Deut. 14:22, Deut. 14:23, Deut. 24:21, Deut. 26:12, 2 Chron. 31:5, 2 Chron. 31:6, Neh. 10:37, Neh. 13:5, Mal. 3:10, Matt. 23:23 and Luke 11:42.
Note: 31 times in 17 verses in the Bible, God's Word states the tithe is declared to be fruits, vegetables and clean animals from the Promise Land, and 14 times that we have listed above, God's Word records the use of money over a long period of time.
>> Verses confirming they had money from income, yet no scriptural reference records money being used for tithing...
See - Genesis 23;12-16, Exodus 38:28, Leviticus 5:15, Leviticus 27:3, Leviticus 27:4, Leviticus 27:5, Leviticus 27:6, Leviticus 27:7, Leviticus 27:16, Numbers 3:47, Numbers 3:50, Matthew 21:12-13, Mark 12:41-42, Acts 8:20.
IN FACT; If their "tithe" was in the form of money (or converted to money), it was a commandment to spend the money on your family;
Deuteronomy 14:24-26 - "And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,"

YOU TELL US YOU "TITHE BECAUSE ABRAHAM DID"
YOU TELL US YOU "TITHE BECAUSE ABRAHAM DID"
No, you do not, and you cannot; here is why;
>> 1. Abraham tithed on the spoils of war that came from the victory over, and the slaughter of Kings, not from his personal wealth;
Hebrews 7:1 - "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;"
Hebrews 7:4 - "Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils."
Genesis 14:17 - "And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale."
>> 2. From the spoils, above and beyond what Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek, Abraham paid the 318 men who fought with him;
Genesis 14:14 - "And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan."
Genesis 14:23-24 - "That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion."
>> 3. The remaining spoils of war were handed over to the pagan King of Sodom, whom Abraham considered the remaining spoils to be the property of the King of Sodom - "and that I will not take any thing that is thine";
Genesis 14:17 - "And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale."
Genesis 14:21-23 - "And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:"
>> 4. No scripture cites Abraham's tithe to Melchisedec as an example to the Nation of Israel or the Church to be followed. No person today can "tithe as Abraham did." If God had intended the New Testament church to follow the example of Abraham in tithing, it would have been clearly stated in the New Testament; no such command or teaching can be found in the New Testament.
CONCLUSION
Tithing teachers often cite Abraham's tithe to Melchisedec as a reason to tithe, a reason to hand over ten percent of your income to them. Yet, they leave out the remaining important context (those inconvenient facts) of Abraham retaining nothing for himself, not tithing on his own wealth, and leaving the rest to a pagan king except that which his 318 men took for themselves.
Abraham kept NOTHING for himself; ARE YOU DOING THE SAME IN YOUR QUEST TO FOLLOW ABRAHAM, KEEPING NOTHING YOU EARN FOR YOURSELF?? Abraham did not keep anything; why are you?
Leaving out important details is often a strategy in the teachings of tithing teachers seeking to deceptively steal your money; text taken out of context is a pretext to deceptive claims.
Additionally; Abraham tithed to Melchisedec, not to a pastor, church or other ministry. No pastor or church under the New Testament has the authority to collect tithes on behalf of Melchisedec or Jesus Christ. Neither are receiving tithes today. Hebrews 7:8 records a one time transaction between Abraham (Levites) and Melchisedec, with no command from God that it is to be repeated or practiced by anyone. In the entire New Testament Hebrews 7:8 is never cited as an example to follow.
In reality; Abraham's tithe to Melchisedec was the Law of Moses in the Levites (Hebrews 7:11) tithing to Melchisedec. The New Testament Church is not the Law of Moses, does not represent the Law of Moses, is not under the Law of Moses and cannot tithe as Abraham did with the Law of Moses in their loins; Romans 6:14 - "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
Still believe you can or should "tithe as Abraham did"?! If so, you are mentioned here; "the hearts of the simple"...
Romans 16:18 - "For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple."
And, here...
Hebrews 5:12-13 - "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe."
This is your answer...
2 Timothy 2:15-16 - "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness."

WHERE IS THE REBUKE?
WHERE IS THE REBUKE?
If tithing was a part of the New Testament there would have been some Christians who would have failed to tithe.
These Christians would have undoubtedly been called out and rebuked for not tithing, such as rebukes from Paul, Peter, James or John.
THE CORINTHIANS
Paul's letters to the Corinthians would have certainly included rebukes for not tithing given how unruly and ungodly the Corinthians were behaving. Name something wrong, name a sin and the Corinthians were involved in it. Curious how Paul never mentioned tithing to the Corinthians, or scolded them for not tithing.
THE GALATIANS
The Galatians were equally rebuked by Paul for being deceived into "another gospel" and other sinful failings...
Galatians 1:6-7 - "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ."
Paul rebuked them harshly calling them "bewitched fools"...
Galatians 3:1-3 - "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?"
...Yet, as with the Corinthians, NO REBUKE regarding tithing is to be found in the book of Galatians.
MISSING FROM THE NEW TESTAMENT
Look through every New Testament epistle, you find NO REBUKE for not tithing. If tithing was a requirement, or even a principle of the New Testament, surely there would have been a few rebukings for not tithing to non-tithing Christians, or instructions to new Christian converts on the principles of "New Testament tithing," and a need for them to begin tithing...THERE ARE NONE.
Tithing is mentioned nine times in the New Testament (Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, 18:12, Hebrews 7:2, 7:4 , 7:5, 7:6, 7:8, 7:9), and not a single verse instructs a Christian to hand over ten percent of their income to any church, minister or to anyone, and not one verse continues any "principle of tithing" into the New Testament.
NO APOSTLE EVER REBUKED ANYONE FOR NOT TITHING
If tithing was required and taught in the New Testament for Christians, it would have to be clearly detailed and outlined in the terms and conditions of the New Testament like all promises and commands of the New Testament are. Tithing instructions would be clearly included in the New Testament, there are NO SUCH INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOUND.
No such terms, conditions or details are outlined anywhere in the New Testament. Tithing was never, is not now, and will never be part of the New Testament.
CONCLUSION
The New Testament KNOWS NOTHING OF ANY COMMAND FOR A BELIEVER TO TITHE. No rebuke for not tithing came from any New Testament Apostle.

DON'T FORGET THE PROPER CONTEXT!
DON'T FORGET THE PROPER CONTEXT!
Malachi 3:10 is probably the one scripture taken out of context more than any other scripture in church history! By deliberately ignoring the proper context related to Malachi 3:10, tithing teachers distort the proper meaning of the scripture.
The out of context distorting of scripture results in Christians being deceived into believing that Malachi 3:10 is commanding them to hand over ten percent of their paycheck to a church or minister.
This is a major deception used against Christians, along with shaming, threats of a loss of blessings, and threats of curses on the "non-tither."
Solution; All scripture must be interpreted in the proper context of all other scripture;
2 Peter 1:20 - "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."
2 Timothy 3:16 - "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"
>> Malachi 3:10 in proper context;
1. Was written to the Nation of Israel, not the New Testament Church - Malachi 1:1
2. Must be carried out strictly in accordance with the Law of Moses, the Ordinances of the Law - Malachi 3:7
3. Was written directly to the priests in the time of Malachi, not the New Testament Church - Malachi 1:6, 2:1, Nehemiah 10:38
4. Originates from the Law of Moses - Malachi 4:4, Hebrews 7:11
5. Was written to a people who God has already began to judge and curse, not the New Testament Church - Malachi 2:2
6. Was written pursuant to, and a commandment of the Law of Moses - Malachi 4:4, Hebrews 7:5; the Church is not under the Law of Moses - Romans 6:14, 7:4, Galatians 2:19, 5:13,14, Hebrews 7:18, Acts 15:24
7. The blessing was rain water, not multi-million dollar homes, private jets and a Rolls Royce - Deuteronomy 28:12, Malachi 3:11
8. Was a reference to bringing in a tenth of the tithe of agricultural produce, not money - Lev. 27:30, 32, Num. 18:27, Num. 18:28, Deut 12:17, Deut. 14:22, Deut. 14:23, Deut. 24:21, Deut. 26:12, 2 Chron. 31:5, 2 Chron. 31:6, Neh. 10:37, Neh. 13:5, Mal. 3:10, Matt. 23:23, Luke 11:42.
9. Is handed over to a Levite under the supervision of a Priest of Aaron - Numbers 18:21-24, Nehemiah 10:38
CONCLUSION
Proper context refutes the lies of deceptive tithing teachers. God desires that we grow in the knowledge of His word;
Hebrews 5:11-14 - "Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
Malachi 3:10 DOES NOT command a New Testament Believer to hand over ten percent of their income to anyone.
Interesting how tithing teachers SCREAM MALACHI 3:10 at you until they're proven wrong, and then it's Jacob or Abraham for more deception and scripture taken out of context pursuing that "tithe dollar."
Romans 16:18 - "For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple."
